Belkin unveiled a new a baby monitor, the WeMo Baby which turns your iPhone into a baby monitor so you don’t have to carry an extra device to keep in touch with your baby. It turns your iOS devices into portable baby monitors that work anywhere. Once the base station is connected to your home’s wireless network, the free WeMo Baby app on your tablet or iPhone listen to your baby while getting more done around the house or yard. It works with multiple devices too, so a babysitter and parents can both keep an ear open for crying.

Lockitron can be used differently depending on what device the user is using. Assuming that the user has an iPhone, the Lockitron utilizes Bluetooth 4.0 to sense when the apartment resident or homeowner is approaching and will automatically unlock the front door without any interaction from the user. Android users will be able to wave their NFC-enabled device in front of the door in order to gain entrance. After the user has entered the building and closed the door, the Lockitron automatically engages the lock again. Even users without smartphones can send a text message to Lockitron to unlock their door.

The device also has a knock sensor. If someone knocks on the door, the homeowner will receive a notification informing them of an arriving guest. It also has an unlock sensor, so if someone uses a traditional key to gain access to the house, the main user will be notified.


Soap Flakes Dispensers

Designer Nathalie Staempfli has come up with a pair of cool new soap dispensers called Soap Flakes that use regular bars of soap instead of liquid soap. These two soap dispensers shave bars of soap into flakes so you don’t use more than you need and you don’t ever need to touch the bar of soap. By shaving a small bit of soap off for each use the user can make the soap last longer and never has to touch the bar, therefor keeping it clean and dry. Nathalie Staempfli created two versions of Soap Flakes, a wall mounted style and a handy enclosed version that keep the soap dry while you shower or bath.
